With a workforce made up of 1400 people, national leading structural steel company, Serverfield, needed a solution to keep their staff engaged and stay connected to their remote workers.
Severfield spent over a year developing a very limited and un-user friendly SharePoint intranet site. After tirelessly trying to build a successful platform they decided they needed a better solution; something that was intuitive which allowed them to post content and keep their employees engaged with ease.
With a 50/50 split workforce between office-based and deskless employees, it was essential for Severfield to have a platform that would enable them to connect digitally and instantaneously with their employees. They also needed to connect with employees through engaging content and improve their documentation process by giving employees easy access to important information such as payslips and company policies.
“We had already spent 12-18 months developing a SharePoint intranet site, which brought with it challenge after challenge and was not user friendly, nor efficient in the time it took to create and post content. It was also very limited in what we could do with the look and feel.”
When they decided they needed a better solution, Oak immediately caught their eye. Not only did Oak offer the essentials they needed to achieve their goals but exceeded the expectations of what could be possible for an intranet.
It was clear that Oak hit the intuitiveness objective for Severfield and they chose to partner with us to create their new intranet platform.
A 12-week creation plan was originally laid out but with an exceptionally large workforce now working from home, it was essential that Severfield stayed connected to their employees. Oak worked with Severfield to get their intranet up and running as soon as possible so they could stay connected to their workforce during a challenging time.
Within a week user accounts were made for all employees and a dedicated page was created to keep employees updated and informed during the global pandemic.
Employees can now interact socially with other colleagues through Messenger and share all kinds of content from images to videos on the main timeline.
Oak’s unique documentation management system enables all employees to access important company information and policies in a safe and controlled environment.

“We were incredibly impressed by the pure simplicity in creating content and building pages. Content can be created in minutes, compared to what was hours on our old system. It also looks modern and works great across all devices.”
