Aldi is a household name all over the world, with more than 850 stores Great Britain and Ireland combined. We’ve worked closely with the Aldi team since 2017 ensuring a close partnership to bring MyALDI to life.
Innovation at the heart
When they came to Oak, the Aldi team were looking to revolutionise the way they communicated with their colleagues. Innovation was absolutely key, with the objective being to deliver an engagement platform which would allow all of their colleagues to contribute to the company conversation.
Although the Aldi team initially weren’t exactly sure what shape it would take, they were determined to have the best possible tool available to reach all colleagues across the business; regardless of location, job role or shift patterns.
Aldi was looking for a unique way to engage with their 32,000 colleagues (now grown to 36,000), many of whom are warehouse and store-based with no access to corporate systems. Connecting colleagues so they could come together and celebrate achievements or share news within the company was difficult, and there was no opportunity for real two-way communication between these colleagues and head office. Aldi needed a tool which would be accessible to colleagues without company email addresses, and something easy to use on the go.
Step up, MyAldi
After comparing multiple intranet solutions, Aldi chose to partner with Oak.
Together we developed their MyALDI solution, which utilises Oak technology to overcome their specific colleague engagement challenges. Key features include:
- A mobile-first approach using the Oak App for ease of access, with intuitive 3rd party integrations to drive sign-ups
- Rota, payslip and holiday applets as well as single sign on for fast access to important information and colleague benefits
- The use of in-app notifications to enable personalised communication with the 36,000 strong workforce throughout the UK and Ireland
Championing great content
The success the Aldi team has achieved is a testament to them and didn’t stop with the delivery of their Oak solution. The Internal Comms team work extremely hard to consistently drive engagement using a wide variety of content; from imagery, people stories and videos to dynamic Christmas advent calendars and sneak previews of their Christmas TV ads.
With a tight content plan and even tighter reporting, they’ve mastered their content strategy; ultimately achieving over 90% employee engagement on a monthly basis, amongst colleagues accessing MyALDI on their own devices in their own time.
Aldi colleagues consistently give feedback that they appreciate having their voices heard. An established feedback process sees the team use colleague ideas to improve content plans and put forward requests for future in-app developments. Members of the Internal Comms team respond to colleague comments to maintain two-way communication and keep their colleagues at the heart of what they do.
Oak’s 3rd party integration powers a ‘Wow Comments’ section which incorporates customer service feedback comments with the MyALDI app, and targets them to the relevant store. Store colleagues can now see their own customer feedback, wherever and whenever they log onto the MyALDI app.

The Aldi team continues to look at new ways to improve MyALDI and engage their workforce, with innovation remaining a big focus.
Knowing that the employee engagement trend line has consistently gone up as they’ve added new features to MyAldi, the Internal Comms team are currently piloting our Employee Recognition applet to drive inter-colleague feedback amongst their user base. In the first four days of just one trial region’s pilot phase, the team saw a fantastic response of over 3,000 ‘praises’ sent between colleagues!
